Abstract: This chapter presents the important features of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and an overview of electrical storage technologies. The basic unit of a solar PV generation system is a solar cell, which is a P‐N junction diode. The power electronic converters used in solar systems are usually DC‐DC converters and DC‐AC converters.
Photovoltaic cells consist usually of large solar farms which feed the power to the grid. Generation of power form photovoltaic cells is DC (Direct Current), which is then given to a DC-DC converter for a stable output voltage and then to the inverters which convert DC power to AC power and then feed it to the grid.
Different structures used in PV system (Walker and Sernia, 2004). The solar PV power can either be delivered directly by injecting the power into the utility grid by solar-to-grid integration or by operating them in islanded mode to supply power to local loads in case of remote locations.
