The industrial and residential sectors are the largest consumers of electricity in Morocco, a trend that has persisted since the beginning of the century. Electricity accounts for 19 % of the country's final energy consumption [7, 24]. Fig. 3 illustrates the evolution of electricity consumption by sector in Morocco since 2000.
Because of that, Morocco relies on energy imports to satisfy the growing domestic demand. The country has traditionally been a net importer of electrical energy, although the net electricity imports have gradually declined. Morocco's energy sector is, nevertheless, in continuous expansion.
